For St. Patricks day, we did a Celtic Knot Bun

for Emily, with a gold tipped Lady Idun hairstick

1st, comb the hair and pull into a ponytail, just hold it with

your hand instead of securing it with an elastic.

2nd hold your left hand flat against the head with the thumb on the

bottom.  Pull the hair between the thumb and index finger, wrap over 3 fingers and pull down between the ring and pinky fingers.

Wrap the hair counterclockwise around your hand stopping at the bottom.

Next step pull the hair between the index and middle fingers that are in the middle of the hair loop.  Pull this hair up through the loop that you've made.  This is the hardest part for me, trying to pull all of that hair up!

Now you have a loop of hair above your original loop.  Don't pull it all the way through, just up enough to get a hairstick in.

Slide your hairstick through the loop you just pulled up and aim away from the bun.  Grab hair from the "outside" then turn the hairstick over and slide through the bun and out the other side.

Depending on how long the hair is, you'll have a tail left.  Smooth the tail and wrap counterclockwise around the bun, tucking the ends under the bun.

I like to add finishing pins to hold the ends in and to give a litte colour.

And there's your celtic knot bun.  See the lovely design, I love this bun on Emily, my hair isn't thick enough for it, and Bella's hair is so dark, you really can't see the pattern.  It's a really easy bun to do once you get the hang of it!

Did it make sense to you?  Being right handed, that's the way my directions are.  I always wrap counterclockwise just because.  Find whatever is comfortable for you :)

(I found the polish in a 5-pack with orange, bubblegum, grape and blueberry at Rite Aid for $7.99, well worth it.  The smells only last about 24 hours, but the color is very pretty.)
